2017–2019 GM 6.6L L5P Duramax Delete Kits & Performance Products

The 2017, 2018, and 2019 6.6 Duramax L5P is the first generation of this platform – and this page has every L5P Duramax delete kit and upgrade we stock for it. All products fit Chevy Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD pickup trucks across all three model years.

What’s Listed in This Category

  • Full Delete Kit – Complete DPF, DEF, and L5P EGR delete with ECU unlock tool, OBD-II flash interface, 6 tuning credits, 5-tune SOTF calibration package (0HP to +150HP), CAN Communication Plug Kit, and stainless steel DPF & CAT delete pipe.
  • DPF & CAT Delete Pipe – 4-inch stainless steel delete pipe that replaces the diesel particulate filter and catalytic converter section.
  • L5P EGR Delete Kit – EGR delete pipes, exhaust block-off plates, gaskets, and mounting hardware. Removes the EGR system to stop carbon buildup in the intake manifold – one of the most common issues on this platform that restricts airflow over time.
  • ECU Unlock Tools – HP Tuners-based ECU unlock tool with Android interface module, wiring harness, and 5-tune SOTF package (0HP to +150HP). Standalone SOTF tune packages also available for owners who already have the unlock tool.
  • Exhaust Systems – 4-inch and 5-inch T409 stainless steel exhaust systems for 2017–2019. Both available as straight pipe or with a muffler.  A standalone 3.5-inch stainless steel downpipe is also available. All bolts, clamps, and hangers included.
  • Performance Accessories – S&B cold air intake. FASS Titanium fuel pump – the L5P CP4.2 injection system is sensitive to fuel contamination and poor fuel lubricity, which is why many owners add a FASS system for extra filtration and fuel supply support. Black Bandit polished stainless steel exhaust tip.

Key Features and Benefits of the L5P Duramax Delete Kit

  • No more DEF heater failures or forced regen limp mode.
  • Cleaner intake without EGR carbon buildup.
  • Full SOTF tuning from 0HP to +150HP on 2017–2019.
  • Faster turbo spool under heavy tow loads.

Supported Models

  • 2017–2019 Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra 2500HD & 3500HD 6.6L L5P Duramax.

The first-gen L5P uses the T87A TCM with Allison 6-speed – tune files and TCM from the 2020+ trucks won’t work here.

FAQ

Yes - most owners with basic tools and jack stands can handle it. The delete pipe and exhaust are bolt-on jobs from underneath. The flashing process itself is handled through the HP Tuners interface via OBD-II once the ECM has been unlocked. The EGR delete is the most time-consuming part because the bolts sit tight between the intake manifold and block. Plan for a full day if you're doing everything together for the first time.

The most common issue is the EGR cooler bolts on the passenger side - they're tight and corroded after years of heat cycling. Penetrating oil and patience go a long way. The CAN Communication Plug Kit needs to be connected correctly for the tuning to communicate with the ECU - double-check the wiring harness connector before flashing. The delete pipe and exhaust systems are straightforward, but make sure you've got the right fitment selected (with or without downpipe) before installing.

The 2017–2019 L5P with a full SOTF tune package offers up to +150HP at the top power level. Torque follows - the Allison 6-speed handles the added calibration well. Throttle response sharpens across the board. You can switch between 5 power levels on the fly, from stock power all the way up to max performance. Even at the mid-range tunes (+75HP or +100HP), the difference in how the truck pulls is noticeable.

Most owners notice improved towing response. Lower EGTs, faster turbo response, and no regen interruptions while you're pulling a load. The L5P already makes strong torque from the factory - removing the DPF and EGR restrictions lets it deliver that power more consistently under sustained load. You won't see the truck drop into a forced regen while climbing a grade with a trailer.

You'll see improved fuel economy because the engine isn't running forced regen cycles anymore. The factory aftertreatment system adds exhaust restriction, especially during regeneration cycles. Most L5P owners report 2–3 MPG improvement on highway. Short-trip drivers notice it most. Running the +150HP tune aggressively won't save fuel - it'll make power instead.
