2016-2021 GM / Chevy Duramax 2.8L LWN
2016–2021 GM 2.8L LWN Duramax Delete Kits & Performance Products
Its own collection here – every LWN Duramax delete kit, exhaust, and EGR component we stock for the 2.8 LWN Duramax is on this page. All products fit Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks in Extended Cab and Crew Cab for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 model years.
What’s Covered on This Page
- Full Delete Kits – Two separate lwn Duramax delete kit options split by year because GM changed the ECM calibration between 2016 and 2017. The 2016 kit includes a tuner with delete tunes, full EGR removal hardware with block-off plates, and a 3-inch T409 stainless steel Turbo-Back Exhaust with mandrel bends. The 2017–2021 kit includes an advanced performance tuner with 4 tuning credits, EGR removal, and a 3-inch T409 Turbo-Back Exhaust with adjustable resonance control. The 2016 kit won’t fit 2017+ and vice versa.
- EGR Delete Kit – EGR block-off plates, gaskets, and mounting hardware for the 2016–2019 2.8L Duramax LWN. A simpler block-off system than what you’d see on a 6.6L – the inline-4 cylinder head and cooler geometry are different.
- ECU Unlock Tool – Standalone ECU unlock device covering 2016–2021 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon 2.8L Duramax. Unlocks the factory ECM so custom delete calibrations can be loaded – doesn’t include a tuner itself.
- 3-Inch Turbo-Back Exhaust – Stainless steel 3-inch Turbo-Back Exhaust. Mandrel-bent with pre-welded contour hangers, stronger flanges, and all clamps included. Replaces the factory exhaust from the turbo outlet back – removes the diesel particulate filter section entirely.

FAQ
This collection covers 2016–2021 - not 2022. If your truck is a 2021 model, you're covered by the 2017–2021 kit. The key thing to confirm is whether your ECM matches the 2017+ calibration. If you've got a 2022 or later, the ECU Unlock Tool still covers it but the full kit may need to be ordered differently. Send us your VIN and we'll confirm before you buy.
The factory tow rating doesn't change - that's set by the frame and axle. What changes is how the engine delivers power under load. Removing the DPF and EGR improves exhaust flow during towing and cleans up the intake. The 2.8L LWN responds well to a delete - throttle response sharpens and the turbo spools faster. The Colorado/Canyon can tow up to ~7,700 lbs from the factory - a delete helps maintain lower exhaust temperatures and more consistent power delivery under sustained load.
You'll see better fuel economy because the engine isn't running forced regen cycles anymore. Short-trip drivers who never complete a full regen notice the biggest improvement - that's the #1 complaint on the LWN platform. Highway cruising typically improves by 1–3 MPG. Running an aggressive tune won't save fuel - it'll make more horsepower instead.
The Turbo-Back exhaust is a bolt-on job from underneath - most owners handle that in a few hours. The EGR delete is tighter on the LWN than on larger Duramax engines because everything's packed closer together under the hood of a midsize truck. Plan for a full day if you're doing both. Once the ECM unlock process is completed, the calibration flashing itself is handled through the OBD-II interface. Every kit ships with detailed instructions, and we're available by phone during the install.

Great communication throughout. All post-purchase questions were answered quickly.
This was my first delete install and it went smoothly. After flashing the ECU and removing the old exhaust, only one pipe needed trimming. Everything else fit perfectly. No regrets.
Removing the factory system was the hardest part, especially on the 2017–2019 Colorado. The OEM downpipe required grinding to remove. With proper tools and experience, the rest was straightforward. After 600+ miles, mpg improved from 27 to 32. Next test will be towing a 6,500 lb trailer.
The tuner was delayed initially, but once it arrived the rest of the setup was ready to go.
Installation was straightforward and response time was fast when I needed help. The only downside was hanger alignment being off slightly, but it was an easy fix.
